Learn More About the
History of the Academic Scholarship
The Academic Excellence Award, formerly known as the Nguyễn Xuân Vinh Scholarship Foundation, traces its origins back to 1999. It was established by a group of pioneering individuals who immigrated from Vietnam to America in 1975, including Long Đào, Hương Trần, Lịch Hồ, Liên Trần, Long Sao, Minh Trần, Nhơn Đặng, Tri Phương Nguyễn, and Ngọc Triêm Nguyễn. These founders have devoted their time to identifying and empowering promising lifelong learners within the Vietnamese Community. Their efforts also serve to honor the memory of Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Vinh (January 1, 1930 – July 23, 2022), a distinguished Vietnamese American aerospace scientist and esteemed educator.
Through the dedication of these founders, the scholarship foundation has granted over 2,000 awards from 1999 to 2018 to young individuals of Vietnamese descent in the Saint Louis area, fostering their academic pursuits towards higher education. The St. Louis Vietnamese Community (STLVNC) is proud to continue the legacy of the Nguyen Xuan Vinh Scholarship Foundation, a platform that has enriched our youth academically for nearly two decades. In this pursuit, we aim to collaborate with parents, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers to inspire and cultivate the leadership potential of our youth in constructive and meaningful ways.
